The former MTS located at 91st Street and the FDR Drive is to be demolished. It has been an eyesore to the area for some time. According to the City’s law department, demolition of this MTS structure is set to begin soon, with work on the site from April 2013 – April 2014 to be ”confined to the area east of the FDR Drive and esplanade, and staged from barges moored in the river.” (via DNAinfo.com).
Rest assured, no construction of the proposed MTS has taken place, and is not scheduled to begin before the spring of 2014 at the earliest.
At this time, three litigations are in various stages of progress against the city, state, and federal agencies.
Amongst the various proposals for the former MTS site are an expanded Asphalt Green athletic facility and cultural center.
