YORKVILLE — Despite outcry from residents, the city is not only moving forward with a plan to build an entrance ramp for the new marine transfer station on 91st Street, but announced last week that it’s also planning to build a second ramp a block away.

Residents and advocates have been calling on the city to move the planned location of the truck ramp on 91st Street to 92nd Street because they were concerned that it would congest the area and create a hazard for kids walking to nearby Asphalt Green, located on 91st Street.

NY1: City Reaches Compromise on Ramp to Upper East Side Marine Transfer Station

A compromise was reached Friday between the city and some Upper East Side residents on how trash in Manhattan will be moved to a marine transfer station on the East River. NY1’s Rick Boone filed this report.

“I lived here when the trucks used to be here. I used to adjust my jogging depending on the smell. If the wind wasn’t blowing, I couldn’t jog around here,” one man says.

The route to the rebirth of the Marine Transfer station on the East River near 91st Street and York Avenue is going to change, but not anytime soon.

NYPost.com: City agrees to spend $30M to move garbage ramp

The city on Friday agreed to move a ramp to the garbage transfer station near Gracie Mansion from East 91st to 92nd Street at a cost of $30 million — $5 million more than projected just two months ago.

The decision follows months of protests from Upper East Side residents.

The original ramp, conceived by the prior administration and already under construction, cuts through the middle of the popular Asphalt Green recreational facility and athletic complex.
